About GWR

Stina | The Owner

My name is Kristina, or as the internet would know me as; Ranchu Stina. I am the founder and owner of Green Water Ranchu. I am an independent, self-employed Japanese Ranchu(らんちゅう)& Japanese Ricefish (メダカ)hobbyist, breeder & enthusiast.

My social presence has now merged with Green Water Ranchu's business social media accounts.

Green Water Ranchu | The Business

Founded April 16, 2018, Green Water Ranchu is an independent ornamental goldfish breeding company and supplier that specializes in the Japanese Ranchu (in Western culture, known as Top-View Ranchu or TVR), Medaka (Also known as Japanese Ricefish), and Japanese Trapdoor Snails.

Green Water Ranchu is also an AUTHORIZED New Life Spectrum fish food reseller.

The Japanese Ranchu are a special kind of Ranchu that are specifically bred and groomed in a manner that makes them best viewed from the above, as if to be looking down onto them while in a pond.

My Ranchu are hand bred and groomed in the U.S. using traditional Japanese methods.

So, why the Japanese Ranchu?

For me, there is just something so therapeutic about how this fish moves and how it captivates me in such a way that it is beyond description. Aside from the 17 years I have studied the Japanese culture, History, Geography and language, I have been fascinated with Asian fish, my favorite being the Japanese Ranchu, of course!

I breed my Ranchu in small, easily manageable batches. Breeding in small batches allows me to provide constant quality care and monitoring for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the moment of hatching, to the time they leave my Ranchu Ranch.

Here at Green Water Ranchu, I want to breed exceptionally healthy US bred ornamental goldfish that I am personally proud of, by maintaining strict, high standards in quality, and care and sold for a reasonable price.

Green Water Ranchu specifically focuses on breeding and selling:

  • Japanese Ranchu: A variety of Ranchu goldfish that are meant to be kept in ponds as they are best viewed from above -- known in Western culture as "Top-View Ranchu" or TVR.
  • Japanese Ricefish (Medaka): A nano Japan native killifish commonly found in still-water ponds and rice paddy fields.
  • Japanese Trapdoor Pond Snails (Cipangopaludina Japonica): A freshwater live bearing variety of snail that is native to Japan.
Green Water Ranchu does not have a brick and mortar store location, and everything I do at Green Water Ranchu is located in the fish room of my house or in my green house.
With everything being small scale, I am able to highly monitor and care for my fish 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The benefit of being an independent fish breeder is that I do things all by myself, exactly how I want to. It's my way, or the highway. I have no staff, I have no helpers, just me. :-)
